Brittany Marshall MSW, RSW

Meet Brittany

Hi. I’m Brittany. A Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist with over 10 years of post graduate experience. I spent eight years working full-time in the healthcare system while simultaneously building a thriving private practice over the past nine years.

Throughout my career, I’ve supported children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, infertility, pregnancy and postpartum challenges, parenting, and life transitions. My experience spans hospitals, family health teams, colleges, and private practice, giving me a strong foundation in evidence-based, client-centred care.

As a supervisor, my goal is to create a supportive, collaborative, and encouraging space where clinicians feel comfortable bringing both their successes and their challenges. I believe supervision should strengthen clinical skills, build confidence, encourage reflective practice, and support therapist well-being. Whether you’re a new clinician developing your therapeutic identity or an experienced therapist looking for consultation on complex cases, I strive to provide practical guidance, thoughtful feedback, and a non-judgmental environment where you can continue to grow professionally.

What is Clinical Supervision?

Clinical supervision is a structured and supportive process where a licensed therapist guides and mentors interns through their clinical practice. It provides feedback, skill development, ethical guidance, and emotional support while helping interns meet professional and licensure requirements.

Types of Supervision

Brittany offers supervision individually (1:1), didactically (2 peers) and in group format (up to 6 peers). Each supervision session is tailored to your unique needs and questions, generally combining support, education, and skill development.

Modalities

Brittany is trained and able to offer supervision for the following modalities:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Trauma-informed Therapy
  • Mindfulness and Meditation
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
  • Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

What Happens During Supervision?

Depending on your learning goals, supervision may include:

• Case conceptualization and treatment planning guidance
• Evidence-based interventions and therapeutic techniques
• Ethical and legal considerations in clinical practice
• Role-play and feedback on therapeutic skills
• Support managing stress, countertransference, and self-care as a clinician
• Preparation for licensure and professional development

I provide a collaborative, compassionate, reflective, and strengths-based approach to supervision. My goal is to help interns:
• Build confidence in their clinical skills
• Develop critical thinking and decision-making as a therapist
• Reflect on personal and professional growth
• Learn strategies to manage challenges in clinical practice

Supervision is individualized, client-centered, and tailored to your learning objectives. Brittany aims to create a professional yet supportive space where clinicians feel challenged, encouraged, and empowered.

Why Supervision Is Needed

Supervision is a vital component of training for mental health professionals. It provides:

  • Guidance and feedback on clinical cases
  • Support navigating ethical dilemmas and professional boundaries
  •  Opportunities to develop confidence, therapeutic presence, and intervention skills
  • A safe space to explore feelings about challenging client interactions
  • Preparation for licensure and professional practice

Frequently Asked Questions About Supervision

Who is eligible for supervision?

Master’s-level interns in counseling, social work, psychology, or related mental health fields who are completing clinical hours toward licensure can benefit from supervision. This includes interns in both part-time and full-time training programs.

How often do supervision sessions occur?

Supervision frequency varies depending on your program and training requirements. Most interns participate in weekly or biweekly supervision sessions, but the schedule can be tailored to your needs and program guidelines.

Can supervision count toward licensure hours?

Yes. Supervision sessions with a qualified licensed clinician count toward the clinical supervision hours required for licensure. I ensure that documentation aligns with state/provincial licensing requirements.

What will we focus on during supervision?

Supervision is personalized, but may include:

-Case conceptualization and treatment planning
-Developing therapeutic skills and interventions
-Ethical and legal guidance in clinical practice
-Reflection on countertransference and professional growth
-Preparation for licensure and career development

Is supervision only about discussing client cases?

No. While case review is a key component, supervision also includes professional development, skill-building, self-reflection, and guidance on managing the emotional demands of clinical work.

How is feedback given during supervision?

Feedback is constructive, collaborative, and strengths-based. You will receive guidance on areas for improvement as well as acknowledgment of your clinical growth and successes.

Can supervision help me prepare for licensure exams?

Yes. Supervision can include preparation for licensure exams, guidance on documentation, and support in meeting professional competency requirements.

What if I feel stuck or overwhelmed during my internship?

Supervision provides a safe space to process challenges, stress, or uncertainty in your clinical work. It is normal to encounter difficult cases or emotions, and supervision helps you navigate these experiences safely and effectively.

How do I get started with supervision?

To begin, reach out to schedule a consultation. We will discuss your training goals, licensure requirements, and how supervision can support your growth as a clinician.
